After fighting your way through the Ritual Chamber, Tyrael remained behind to hold back Mephisto’s corruption and open the path forward for you.
With the way now clear, you must press onward alone and make your way to the Pools of Creation where Mephisto awaits.
Everything has led to this moment, and with Lilith’s Blade finally reforged, the time has come to confront the Lord of Hatred himself.
How To Get the Lord of Hatred Quest?
The “Lord of Hatred” quest comes right after the “Delivering a Promise” quest, where you previously fought your way to reach the Ritual Chamber.
Your fight with the Guardian of the Pools eventually allowed Tyrael to remove the barrier created by Mephisto, providing you with a way to reach the Pools of Creation.
Lord of Hatred Walkthrough
Once Tyrael provides you with a way to get past the door, progress through the next set of areas, as this will lead you to the Pools of Creation.
This includes jumping over gaps, climbing up and down certain areas, and running all the way to the end, where Akarat and a bunch of followers will be.
Once you reach The Birthplace, interact with Akarat to confront him, which starts a cutscene where Mephisto reveals his true form, which sets you up for a boss battle.
Mephisto will come at you with several area attacks, but most of these can easily be avoided, and you will need to damage him until his health is depleted.
This will not be Mephisto’s final form though, and his attacks won’t be as devastating yet until you defeat him during this phase.
A good way to defeat Mephisto in this form would be to keep your distance while unleashing your attacks until he transforms to his final form.
When in his final form, Mephisto becomes even more deadly, capable of unleashing powerful attacks, but some of the charged ones can be avoided.
Watch out for when he is at low health because he creates a whirlpool-like area before unleashing an attack that can kill you with a single hit.
The best way to defeat Mephisto would be to keep your distance and stay mobile, as he can be quite deadly if you stay still.
A cutscene begins after you defeat Mephisto, where you stab him with Lilith’s Blade and banish him into the void.
Grab the loot that drops and speak to Tyrael before making your way to the portal that brings you out of the Pools of Creation, which ends the quest.
Lord of Hatred Quest Rewards
After completing the “Lord of Hatred” quest, you will receive a new quest called “A New Beginning” once you have stepped through the portal.
In addition to the next quest being unlocked, you also receive:
- XP
- Gold
Amongst the loot that is dropped, you will also obtain Hatred’s Spin, a cosmetic trophy that you can equip on your mount.
Verdict
After finally reaching the Pools of Creation, you confront Akarat only for Mephisto to reveal himself and begin the final battle.
The fight against the Lord of Hatred pushed you to survive devastating attacks across two deadly phases before you were finally able to bring him down.
With Lilith’s Blade reforged and driven into Mephisto, he was finally banished into the void, bringing an end to his plans and the long pursuit across Nahantu.
