Diablo 4: The Butcher Boss (Location, Summon, Challenge, Defeat & Drops)

The Butcher was first introduced in Season 12 as a structured Lair Boss encounter, giving players a controlled version of his classic dungeon ambush fight.

After his introduction, he became a permanent Greater Lair Boss and now appears as part of the recurring endgame boss ladder each season.

This version of The Butcher keeps his fast, melee-heavy style and punishing damage, making him a dangerous fight if you’re not prepared.

The Butcher Location (The Broiler)

The Butcher can be found within his dedicated Lair Boss dungeon known as The Broiler, located in Gea Kul. (You can fast travel to this dungeon)

This dungeon gives you a fixed arena where the fight happens without random dungeon interruptions or distractions.

Once inside, push through to the Chamber of Suffering where the Altar of Carnage is located to start the fight.

How To Challenge The Butcher?

Enter The Broiler dungeon in Gea Kul and progress through the area until you reach the Chamber of Suffering where the Altar of Carnage is located.

Once you reach the altar, interact with it to summon The Butcher and once he appears the battle begins immediately.

This is a Lair Boss fight, so you must be on Torment I or higher in order to access and challenge the encounter.

How To Defeat The Butcher?

The Butcher is a fast melee-focused Lair Boss that constantly rushes players and applies heavy close-range pressure throughout the entire fight.

His main threat comes from his ability to quickly close distance, chain attacks, and punish any moment where you stop moving or get cornered.

He uses charge attacks, hook-style pulls, and wide melee swings that can quickly delete players if they fail to reposition in time.

The longer the fight goes on, the more dangerous it becomes as he maintains constant pressure without giving much breathing room.

Arena hazards can further restrict movement, making it important to always keep an escape path open instead of fighting in tight corners.

Once his health is fully depleted, The Butcher is defeated and his Hoard will appear for you to claim rewards.

How To Open The Butcher’s Hoard Chest?

After defeating The Butcher, his Hoard will appear nearby around the right side of the chamber and this can be opened to get rewards.

Opening The Butcher’s Hoard requires 1 Greater Lair Boss Key, which is necessary for each time you defeat him and will attempt to open the chest.

Verdict

The Butcher is one of the most aggressive Lair Bosses, relying on constant pressure and fast melee attacks to force mistakes.

Most of the fight comes down to staying mobile and avoiding being caught in close range where his damage becomes deadly very quickly.

If you keep your distance, manage space properly, and don’t let him lock you into corners, the fight becomes far more controlled while still staying dangerous throughout.
