Destiny 2 Specimen ID NES003 Quest Steps

After tracking a specimen, you found what appears to be part of a Vex Combatant and Failsafe needs your help identifying it.

Failsafe has initially figured out that it originates from a Vex Combatant and sends you to collect data from different Vex by defeating them.

Eventually, by figuring out which Vex Combatant the part belongs to, Failsafe will be able to provide you with further upgrades to provide you with a bonus throughout The Final Shape.

How To Get Specimen ID: NES003 Quest?

Specimen ID: NES003 can be obtained by first tracking the specimen, which can be done by visiting Failsafe and opening the Research Bays Menu.

The third item will be available for tracking, which you must select before starting a Breach Executable activity.

Near the end of the activity, you will notice that the Proximity Sensor will appear on the left side of your screen, and you will need to head up a slope.

The further you go up the slope, you will see your Proximity Sensor showing a better signal, which indicates you are getting nearer to the specimen.

Once you find the specimen, interacting with it will allow you to collect it and afterward, the Specimen ID: NES003 quest will be available when you visit Failsafe.

Specimen ID: NES003 Quest Steps

Step 1: Defeat Goblins or Fanatics to identify potential molecular similarities

The first Vex Combatants that you will need to collect data on by defeating them will be Goblins and Fanatics, which can be found on Nessus. (Other destinations work too)

One of the fastest ways to complete this would be to go to Artifact’s Edge on Nessus and do The Orrery Lost Sector until this is completed. (Other activities from the H.E.L.M. work too)

  • Defeat 100 Goblins/Fanatics

Step 2: Defeat Hobgoblins or Harpies to continue narrowing the field

Your next target will be to defeat Hobgoblins or Harpies as the part has not shown any similarities to the previous targets.

This can also be completed in The Orrery Lost Sector as well as other activities that you have available in the H.E.L.M. such as Breach Executables or Battleground Echoes.

  • Defeat 50 Hobgoblins/Harpies

Step 3: Defeat a Minotaur, Wyvern, Cyclops, and Hydra to identify a final match

Finding these Vex Combatants may take some time if you go after them one by one, which is why we recommend doing a Battleground Echoes activity since you will encounter them all.

You will need to defeat one of each Vex Combatant (Minotaur, Wyvern, Cyclops, and Hydra) in any order until you have completed the list.

  • Defeat Vex Hydra
  • Defeat Vex Wyvern
  • Defeat Vex Minotaur
  • Defeat Vex Cyclops

Step 4: Speak with Failsafe in the H.E.L.M. to review her final specimen report

After you have gathered enough data, it is time for you to head back to Failsafe at the H.E.L.M. to see what she has come up with.

This will result in her giving you the Assimilated Wyvern Shield-Wing, which you may later place among the other items that you have on display.

This unlocks the Breach Executable Iridescent Radiolite Extractor, which finds random Iridescent Radiolite in a chest at the end of Breach Executable activities.

  • Review Failsafe’s report

Step 5: Travel to the H.E.L.M. and place the Assimilated Wyvern Shield-Wing in your specimen collection

After taking the Assimilated Wyvern Shield-Wing from Failsafe, you will now need to place it in your collection aboard the H.E.L.M. to complete the quest.

  • Display Specimen

Specimen ID: NES003 Quest Rewards

During the steps that you take to complete this quest, you will be able to obtain various rewards from the activities that you do.

Completion of this quest provides you with the Breach Executable Iridescent Radiolite Extractor, which provides you with Iridescent Radiolite at the end of a Breach Executable activity.

You will receive 1 random Iridescent Radiolite by opening the chest at the end of the activity while doing Expert difficulty will reward you with 2.

Summary

Vex Combatants can sometimes be complex to study and finding the large piece of metal that turned out to be a specimen led to the search through a lot of data.

Eventually, Failsafe was able to single out which combatant the specimen was from, which turned out to be a Vex Wyvern.

Through the use of the data that you provided, Failsafe has given you yet another upgrade that will help you progress during The Final Shape.
