Destiny 2: Renegades introduced the Lawless Frontier when it was released, providing Guardians with a new place to take on new challenges, which are mainly jobs and invasions.
These are required to complete contracts, and more, but harsh territories such as the Lawless Frontier can be punishing to those who are not ready, but luckily, there is a small advantage.
Renegade Abilities are available to those who participate in the Lawless Frontier activities, and there are plenty to choose from depending on what suits your playstyle.
What Are Renegade Abilities?
Renegade Abilities are available for use in Lawless Frontier activities and can be used in addition to your character’s regular abilities during gameplay.
Once deployed into the Lawless Frontier, these abilities can be activated at any time but require charges, which can be replenished while participating in the activity.
At the start of each Lawless Frontier activity, players can select two Renegade Abilities that will remain available for the rest of that specific activity.
All Renegade Abilities & How To Get Them
Spider Renegade Abilities
The Renegade Abilities from Spider are obtained during the Renegades Quest, allowing you to get your first set to use while doing your early Lawless Frontier activities.
- Strafing Run – Calls down an airstrike from your ship that damages and scorches hostiles and objects in the target area.
- Revitalize – Calls in a utility shank that heals and provides ability energy for allied Guardians.
- Recon Shank – Calls in a reconnaissance shank that can reveal the location of hostiles, high-value targets, and objects of interest.
Totality Division Renegade Abilities
Imperium Pod is obtained during the Renegades Quest, while Imperium Behemoth must be unlocked by reaching Rank 3 with the Totality Division.
- Imperium Pod – Calls down a modified Imperium drop pod that slams into the ground, damaging combatants on impact. (Contains weapon ammo)
- Imperium Behemoth – Calls in a pilotable Imperium Behemoth war machine at the beacon’s location.
The Pikers Renegades Abilities
During the Renegades Quest, you will be able to unlock the Piker Chop Shop ability, while Piker Mortar is unlocked by reaching Rank 3 with The Pikers.
- Piker Chop Shop – Calls in a Falcon attack vehicle that provides both mobility and offensive support in the field.
- Piker Mortar – Calls in a Piker Mortar that launches homing missiles at targets in the area.
Tharsis Reformation Renegade Abilities
Vex Deflector is the first Renegade Ability that you unlock from the Tharsis Reformation, which happens during the Renegades Quest.
- Vex Deflector – Calls in a defensive Vex Deflector dome that absorbs and reflects incoming fire. Targets who pass through the dome are damaged and jolted. Allies who enter the dome are amplified.
- Vex Stun Field – Creates a Vex-derived field that blinds and damages targets.
How To Change Renegade Abilities?
There are two ways to change your Renegade Abilities, which are either to interact with the Aerial Support Terminal in the Tharsis Cantina or at the start of Lawless Frontier activities.
You can unequip both of your currently equipped Renegade abilities and choose the ones that you want, or simply select one to equip, which will replace one if you already have 2 active.
Best Renegade Abilities
PvE Abilities
When it comes to PVE, Revitalize is a common choice due to its ability to heal Guardians, but this is replaced later when Guardians become more used to the Lawless Frontier.
Strafing Run is an excellent choice when it comes to clearing out groups of enemies, while Imperium Behemoth can be useful for damage and protection.
When focusing on loot and secrets found in the Lawless Frontier, choosing Recon Shank can be a good option if you want to make the most out of activities.
PvP Abilities
PVP in the Lawless Frontier will often mean that you are either invading an activity that has just started, or you come face-to-face with another invader.
The goal is to survive and defeat your targets, and a great way to stay alive is to have the Imperium Behemoth ability equipped so you can ride the vehicle when enemies come.
Another good Renegade for PVP is also the Recon Shank, as this will point out several items around you and even show where an invading Guardian is currently hiding.
Verdict
Renegade Abilities add strategic depth to Lawless Frontier activities, offering Guardians flexible options to enhance combat, support allies, and gain situational advantages based on their playstyle.
Choosing the right abilities depends on activity type, with Revitalize and Recon Shank excelling for PvE support and Strafing Run or Imperium Behemoth providing strong offensive utility.
For PvP encounters, abilities like Imperium Behemoth and Recon Shank give both survivability and tactical awareness, making them key tools for outlasting opponents and controlling objectives effectively.
