Diablo 4: The Burning Shepherd Quest Walkthrough

After recovering the Splinter of Destruction, your investigation with Deckard Cain continues as you search for another piece connected to the Prime Evils.

Your next target is Sankekur, who can be found in Hawezar and holds the key to entering another Waking Nightmare.

The Burning Shepherd takes you back to Travincal and the Durance of Hate, where another familiar enemy from Diablo II awaits.

How To Get The Burning Shepherd Quest?

The Burning Shepherd becomes available after completing The Horadrim’s Fate and obtaining the Splinter of Destruction from the Worldstone Keep Waking Nightmare.

Take the portal back to the Imperial Library and speak with Deckard Cain, who will send you to Hawezar to search for Sankekur.

Using the Zarbinzet Waypoint or another nearby Waypoint will help you reach the marked location much faster.

The Burning Shepherd Quest Walkthrough

Travel to the marked location in Hawezar to find Sankekur, who becomes hostile and must be defeated before you can proceed.

Once Sankekur’s health has been depleted, he will reappear nearby and you can speak with him to continue the quest.

A Waking Nightmare will appear after your conversation, which you can enter to begin the Diablo II – Durance of Hate memory.

You will arrive in Travincal, where your main objective is to reconstruct Khalim’s Will before you can access the Durance of Hate.

Continue exploring Travincal until you encounter Ismail Vilehand, who must be defeated before you can collect Khalim’s Flail and continue assembling Khalim’s Will.

The remaining three components are found inside Zakarum Chests located within separate dungeons that can be accessed throughout Travincal.

The following locations within the Travincal have Zakarum Chests, which provide the following:

  • Kurast Sewers – Khalim’s Heart
  • Flayer Dungeon – Khalim’s Brain
  • Spider Cavern – Khalim’s Eye

Explore each dungeon until you locate its Zakarum Chest, collect the required component, and use the nearby exit to return to Travincal.

Once you have Khalim’s Heart, Brain, Eye, and Flail, make your way toward the Compelling Orb and interact with it to use Khalim’s Will.

Doing so unlocks the entrance to the Durance of Hate, allowing you to enter and continue deeper into the Waking Nightmare.

Fight your way through the Durance of Hate while following the path toward Level 3, where you will eventually encounter Mephisto.

Mephisto uses several attacks throughout the battle that can either be endured or avoided depending on your character and current build.

Continue damaging Mephisto while avoiding his stronger attacks until his health is depleted and the encounter comes to an end.

Sankekur will appear after Mephisto has been defeated, and you will need to speak with him once more before completing the Waking Nightmare.

Despite being less than grateful for your assistance, Sankekur leaves behind the Splinter of Hatred, which you can pick up to complete the quest.

A portal will also appear nearby, allowing you to return directly to the Imperial Library and continue your investigation with Deckard Cain.

The Burning Shepherd Quest Rewards

Completing The Burning Shepherd rewards you with XP and Gold, with the amounts received depending on your character’s current level.

You will also obtain the Splinter of Hatred, giving you two Splinters after previously collecting the Splinter of Destruction.

Completing The Burning Shepherd also unlocks The Brother’s Keeper, which becomes the next quest as you continue progressing through the Season 15 storyline.

Verdict

The Burning Shepherd takes us through another Diablo II memory, this time requiring Khalim’s Will before we can descend into the Durance of Hate.

Collecting its four components takes up most of the journey, while the battle against Mephisto serves as the final obstacle before obtaining another Splinter.

With the Splinters of Destruction and Hatred secured, we can return to Deckard Cain before continuing with The Brother’s Keeper.
