Destiny 2: How To Get Strange Matter

With the arrival of the Monument of Triumph update, certain things were added to Destiny 2, including a new material known as Strange Matter.

This material is tied to the Distortions that have made their way to certain destinations and may be collected later to start a path towards greater rewards.

Collecting this material begins with first making your way to a destination that is corrupted by distortions, and while collecting these may be a grind, the rewards later can be worth the effort.

How To Get Strange Matters?

Strange Matter can be collected at Destinations that are corrupted by Distortions, which can be checked by heading to the Destinations Menu.

Once you are at a destination that is under the effect of distortions, there are multiple ways for you to obtain Strange Matter, and the amounts may vary.

Public Events reward a large amount of Strange Matter when you open the reward chests along with other activities, which sometimes provide you with a buff that increases gain for a short time.

Defeating enemies, opening chests, and even collecting destination materials will also provide you with a small amount of Strange Matter.

Where To Use Strange Matter?

Strange Matter is not used directly, but instead, you will need to collect up to 50 of this material, which causes it to automatically convert into a Strange Signal.

Strange Signal later allows you to track valuable loot, which will appear on your map, but there will also be a tough enemy guarding the chest.

Collecting Strange Matter while you have a Strange Signal will result in it being stored until you have opened the Distortion Chest, and only then will it be converted once more.

Best Way To Farm Strange Matter

Public Activities are one of the best ways to obtain Strange Matter, and while doing these, you can also collect it from the other sources in the area.

It is best to complete a Public Activity or other smaller events in the area before collecting the minor sources, that way you can make use of the Strange Multiplier buff.

You may hold more Strange Matter even if you have a Strange Signal already, allowing you to farm a ton of these before deciding to head for the reward chests.

Verdict

Strange Matter gives players a reason to actively engage with Distortions, rewarding exploration and participation with progress toward more valuable loot.

Although gathering it can take some time, the automatic conversion into Strange Signals creates a satisfying gameplay loop that keeps rewards flowing as you play.

If you’re planning to spend time in Distortion-affected destinations, collecting Strange Matter is well worth the effort and should become part of your routine.
